Addressing the Physician Shortage with Accessible, Innovative Health Education

How the MSMS Can Contribute to Better Health Care Access

Industry and government analysts have long predicted that the United States will face a shortage of health care providers especially physicians before the end of the first half of this century. For example, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) projects that the U.S. will face a shortfall of 86,000 physicians by 2036.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, reports have shown that shortages are already impacting care, particularly in primary care. The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) reports that as of December 2024, 76.3 million Americans live in an area that is a designated primary care health professional shortage area.

Working with our university partners, Tiber Health is dedicated to addressing doctor shortages by increasing access to quality health science education that equips graduates to succeed in medical school.

A Pipeline Program for Tomorrow’s Health Workforce

The Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MSMS) curriculum and methodology provides talented pre-medical and pre-health students with the academic enrichment and support they need to gain admission to medical school.

MSMS students take courses that mirror the first year of pre-clinical coursework at an LCME-accredited medical school in a flipped-classroom format. The Tiber Health Predictive Analytics Suite offers students and their advisors real time updates about progress against USMLE topics, helping guide personalized learning and career choice pathways.

According to results of Tiber Health’s annual graduate survey 82% of MSMS students have gone on to study medicine at a professional school. Since 2013 we’ve helped hundreds of students who were struggling to gain admission to professional health education achieve their goals – students who will go on to become the doctors and care providers Americans living in shortage areas need.
